The new Beal Gully 7.3mm Unicore climbing rope was featured in Climbing Magazine’s 2014 Gear Guide. The lightest and thinnest half rope on the market, the Gully is also certified as a twin rope.
Climbing Magazine labeled the Beal Gully as the "crazy-light half rope" and said, "Even though it's the thinnest rope I've ever climbed on, it still felt substantial in my hands and running through the belay device."
The Beal Gully has a lot going for it. With its 7.3mm diameter and weight of 36 grams per meter, it’s the thinnest and lightest half rope out there. The Gully is constructed with UNICORE, bonding its sheath and core together to eliminate sheath slippage and reducing potentially life-threatening accidents due to sheath separation.
Because of the Golden Dry treatment that is applied to every fiber of the core and sheath, the Gully has been certified by the UIAA as a Water Repellent rope. The Gully surpassed the certification test that required the rope to absorb no more than 5% of its own weight in water by absorbing less than 2%. In short, this rope is thin, light, safe, and truly water repellent.
Beal athlete, Aaron Mulkey has been establishing first ascents on ice with the Gully ever since it came out. Here’s what he has to say about the rope:
“I have been nothing, but impressed with the new Beal Gully ropes. I was initially worried about their durability with how skinny they are, but I can’t seem to break them down yet. Wyoming’s South Fork is notorious for tearing apart ropes that are not durable enough to deal with the volcanic like rock and dirty rappels.
"Typically the ice in the valley is super wet and after a few days other ropes don’t seem to be all that dry anymore. My Gullys have stayed just as dry as the first day I unwrapped them, which is amazing. The dry treatment process is like nothing else I have ever seen and it lasts much longer then any other rope I have used.
“When packing for big days and wanting to travel as light as possible you really can’t beat these ropes. They are super light and their ratings are unbeatable even when you match them up with most 8mm ropes.
“Beal just made ropes sexy and you honestly can’t leave home without them.”
