Keeping Things Light With The Cypher Mydas

Cheyne Lempe, notorious for always being on a big wall, shares his thoughts about the Cypher Mydas carabiner.

"For some, a climbing-equipment-weight-reduction obsession may seem slightly ridiculous on single-pitch climbs or shorter length routes.  However, I have learned from climbing first ascents in Patagonia and solo big-wall pushes in Yosemite that the energy spent carrying excess weight for an extended amount of time is significant. The weight that I save while using the Cypher Mydas wire gate carabiner allows me to push myself higher, harder, and faster.

The two main factors that I use when deciding which carabiners to use are weight and clip-a-bility. Weighing in at 24 grams with a strength rating of 23kn, the Mydas is one of the lightest carabiners on the market. The spring tension of the gate is easy to clip, yet is stiff enough to prevent an accidental opening of the gate. The overall size is just big enough so that you won't fumble with gloves on."

New Shoes: Cypher Logic

We are super stoked for the new line of Cypher climbing shoes. We just recently stocked our warehouse with the new Cypher Logic.

The Cypher Logic is a full-leather shoe with a comfortable synthetic liner that cinches down perfectly on any foot with a lace system that reaches down to the toes.

The Logic, in all its sturdiness, was designed with the approach, scramble, and descent in mind. In no way is the Logic limited to being just an approach shoe for rock climbing. It crosses over to many different applications like general hiking, walking around town, and even long-boarding.

After Work Cragging

One of the mantras that we go by here at Liberty Mountain is "We use the gear that we sell." In order to round up the best gear to distribute to gear shops, we are constantly testing new gear to prove its quality.

A few of Liberty Mountain's employees started a weekly climbing tradition of going out to a nearby crag right after work to test gear, shoot photos, and to obviously have fun and stay in shape. Their canyon of choice so far has been Big Cottonwood Canyon. With its numerous quartzite crags that are easily accessible, BCC is a great place to climb right after work before the darkness quickly sets in.

Michael Portanda is Liberty Mountain's Digital Assets Manager, A.K.A. Mr. Photographer. When he packs for climbing, it's like he's packing for a weeklong vacation, rolling suitcase and all. He bounces back and forth from climbing to shooting photos...so all the extra equipment is really needed. No extra shoes in those bags, just extra lenses.
