Mountain Running – Tor des Géants – Nick Hollon

US runner and Grivel sponsored athlete, Nick Hollon became the first non-European to take the podium in the history of the Tor des Géants mountain running race.

Circumnavigating the Aosta Valley in Italy, the Tor des Géants (Tour of Giants) race covers over 200 miles along the Alta Via 1 and Alta Via 2 footpaths in the Dolomites. This mountainous course gains over 78,000 feet in elevation as it runs along the feet of the region’s fourteen thousand foot peaks. Mountain runners have seven days and 150 hours to complete the race, choosing when, where, and for how long they rest along the way.

Upon crossing the finish line, Nick Hollon proudly waved his American flag to celebrate his 76.5 hour finish (76:29.38) that put him in 2nd place, making him the first non-European to ever stand on the finish line podium. Congrats Nick for an amazing accomplishment in the Italian mountains.

In addition to taking 2nd place overall, Nick received the Kia award for placing first in his age category.

More about Nick Hollon
Nick Hollon is a 23 year old San Diego resident who started racing when he was 17. In an effort to raise money for a friend that was fighting cancer, Nick started to run ultra-marathon distances on trails and in the mountains. Nick focuses on long distance running challenges that test and push his personal limits. Now as a Grivel sponsored trail runner, Nick continues to push hard, set records, and inspire those around him.
